Interviews can be pretty stressful experiences. That’s why we’ve put together a guide on how to tackle interviews confidently, making sure you feel calm and collected leading up to the big day.
Do your homework
First, start by doing your homework. Do some research into the organisation you want to work for. Go to their website for the company facts and social media pages to discover the personality of the business. The interviewer might ask you what you know about the company, so it’s best to be clued up. Also, you can gauge whether it seems like an environment where you’d fit in.
Prepare
Make sure you prepare some answers to popular questions that could come up. It’s best to have an idea of what you’re going to say, rather than being left tongue-tied and red-faced. Question such as ‘why do you want to work here?’ or ‘what can you bring to the company?’ are a couple of classics that are good to start with.
Organisation is key before an interview. Do a test run of the route you’ll take to the interview in advance. Set out what you’re going to wear the night before. Make sure you arrive at the interview 15 minutes early. All these small things make a great difference in reducing stress on the interview day.
Be yourself
On the day of the interview, all you can do is be yourself. It’s simple, but make sure to smile. The interviewer wants to see your personality and how well you’ll fit into the business. Also, if relevant, take some examples of past work so the interviewer can get a better idea of your skillset. Answer the questions as thoroughly as possible and try not to waffle! Apply your past skills and knowledge to the job role and tailor your answers accordingly.
Now, go and smash your interview! Good luck.
