JOB DESCRIPTION

An HGV1 Multi Drop Driver operates heavy goods vehicles with a Class 1 license and is responsible for making multiple deliveries to various locations during a single shift. This role involves efficient route planning, adherence to traffic regulations, and ensuring the safe and timely delivery of multiple consignments.

QUALIFICATIONS

No formal academic entry qualifications are required. The LGV test incorporates a medical examination, theory test and assessed road driving. LGV drivers of vehicles of 3.5 tonnes and over require a Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence). The minimum age for LGV driving after obtaining the qualification is 18 years. NVQs/SVQs, other vocational courses and apprenticeships relevant to this occupation are available at various levels.

  • Drive HGV1 vehicles, including articulated lorries, for multi-drop deliveries..
  • Operate vehicles in compliance with traffic laws, safety regulations, and specific Class 1 HGV guidelines..

  • Prioritize and organize deliveries to meet time-sensitive schedules..

  • Utilize navigation systems or maps to navigate unfamiliar locations..
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods, ensuring accurate consignment handling..
  • Use equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts as needed..
  • Maintain accurate records of multiple deliveries, including times, locations, and consignment details..
  • Complete required paperwork and reports in compliance with regulatory requirements..
  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines for HGV1 operation, including vehicle maintenance and adherence to speed limits..
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle..
  • Interact with customers or warehouse personnel in a professional and courteous manner..
  • Address delivery-related inquiries or issues..
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, or warehouse personnel..
  • Relay information regarding delays, route changes, or other relevant details..
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on the HGV1 vehicle, such as checking fluid levels and tire pressure..
