Our legal client in Bristol has a permanent opportunity to join their team as a Claims Handler.

This is a full-time role working Monday - Friday 09.30 - 5.30 pm.

Overview

The Claims Handling Department provides an outsourced managed claims service for leading professional indemnity insurers.

The team handles claims made against professionals, working under delegated authority from the first notification of loss through to resolution.

This department adds significant value to the wider firm through referrals and plays a key role in the firm's insurance business and future strategy.

This role is based in the Bristol office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage claims made against professionals, including investigating cover, assisting insured professionals, responding to claims, and reporting to insurers.
  • Negotiate settlements within delegated authority, ensuring commercial and fair resolutions.
  • Ensure adherence to internal SLAs, KPIs, and insurer requirements.
  • Proactively manage a caseload to avoid unnecessary litigation and achieve effective outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate data on the case management system and support reporting to insurers.
  • Implement insurer reserving policies and ensure claims are handled fairly, using approved external suppliers.
  • Identify trends and escalate risk information to the Head of Claims and insurers.
  • Stay up to date with industry changes and ensure delivery of market-leading solutions.

Skills and Experience
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in claims handling.
  • A keen desire to build a career in claims handling and insurance
  • Ability to build internal relationships and deliver excellent client service.
  • Commercial, proactive approach with the ability to meet client needs and deadlines.
  • Effective at building collaborative relationships with clients, intermediaries, and suppliers.
