Maintenance Fitter

East Lothian
£17.78 per hour + 15–20% shift allowance (approx. £40,000 per annum)
Permanent, Full-Time

We’re recruiting for a Maintenance Fitter to join a large, well-established sawmill and timber processing facility in Humbie, East Lothian. If you have solid mechanical maintenance experience in sawmilling, timber, or heavy manufacturing, this is a great opportunity to join a company investing in its people and technology.

Shift Pattern
3-week rotation:
Days: 6am – 2pm
Backs: 2pm – 10pm
Nights: 10pm – 6am

Shift allowance: +15% for day/back, +20% for night.

40 hours per week (approx. £40,000 per annum).

Key Responsibilities

Maintain, repair, and overhaul sawmill production machinery and equipment.
Diagnose and rectify mechanical and hydraulic faults quickly and safely.
Undertake planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
Replace motors, conveyors, belts, bearings, and other mechanical components.
Support process improvements and efficiency projects.
Record maintenance activities accurately using the site’s CMMS system.
Work collaboratively with production teams to reduce downtime.

About You

Fully qualified Mechanical Fitter (apprenticeship or equivalent).
Experience in a sawmill, timber processing, or similar heavy mechanical industry is highly desirable.
Knowledge of conveyors, saw lines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated machinery.
Team player with good communication skills and a strong safety mindset.
Reliable, flexible, and motivated to deliver quality maintenance work.
Having a drivers licence and access to a vehicle would be beneficial due to the location and shift pattern.
