Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy with 45 years’ experience delivering civil, structural, geotechnical, and MEP projects. You will work on high-profile UK infrastructure, rail, bridge, and building projects, collaborating with a technically skilled, cross-disciplinary team.
The
Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering electrical building services solutions while supporting project teams and mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security
- Prepare calculations, technical specifications, reports, and coordinated drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, and other electrical design tools
- Collaborate with civil, structural, geotechnical, and mechanical teams to deliver fully integrated project solutions
- Conduct site surveys and technical inspections, supporting temporary works and project phasing during design and construction
- Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and multidisciplinary workshops
- Ensure compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations, CIBSE standards, and project specifications
- Support quality assurance, cost estimation, and value-engineering across MEP disciplines
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal technical standards and best practices
Candidate Profile
- Degree or HND/HNC in Electrical, Building Services, or related engineering field
- 2–6 years’ experience in electrical building services design, preferably in a multidisciplinary consultancy
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; BIM experience is advantageous
- Strong knowledge of UK electrical regulations (BS 7671), CIBSE guidance, and building standards
- Ability to work across disciplines, understanding project phasing, site programs, and temporary works
- Excellent communication, client-facing, and team collaboration skills
- Proactive, organised, and detail-oriented approach
- Interest in infrastructure, rail, and structural projects is highly desirable
