About the Role
An established building services consultancy in the Bristol area is looking to add a
Senior Sustainability / Building Physics Engineer to their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile projects across education, healthcare, commercial, residential, and leisure sectors.
You will be a key contributor to sustainability and building physics input on projects — from energy modelling and life cycle assessments to BREEAM, Passivhaus, and Net Zero Carbon strategies. Alongside project work, you’ll mentor junior engineers and collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative, low-carbon building designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead sustainability and building physics consultancy services throughout project lifecycles
- Perform thermal modelling, energy performance analysis, embodied carbon calculations, and life cycle assessments
- Prepare clear technical reports, sustainability statements, and certification documentation (BREEAM, Passivhaus, etc.)
- Attend design team, client, and site meetings, providing expert advice and guidance
- Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment
- Keep up to date with evolving UK regulations and best practice frameworks, including Part L, NPPF, and local planning policies
- Manage workload efficiently to deliver high-quality work within deadlines
Candidate Profile
- Degree qualified in Building Services, Environmental or Architectural Engineering, Energy, Sustainability, or a related field
- Certified Low Carbon Energy Assessor (or working towards qualification)
- Strong experience in building physics principles, thermal modelling, and sustainability assessments
- Proficient with software such as IES, AutoCAD, and Revit
- Familiar with UK sustainability standards and regulations including BREEAM, Passivhaus, Net Zero Carbon, Part L, and NPPF
- Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
- Demonstrable leadership and mentoring capabilities
