Mechanical Building Services Installer / Craftsperson A new opportunity is available for experienced Mechanical Services Installers or craftsperson’s, to join a growing mechanical division operating across South Wales and the wider UK. Immediate openings are available for candidates with proven experience in installing large-scale industrial and commercial systems, including heating, chilled water, and hot and cold-water systems.
Key Responsibilities Successful candidates will possess a solid understanding of commercial mechanical systems and the interrelation of their components. They will be responsible for planning, organising, and executing the installation of various systems to a high standard, while ensuring efficient use of resources. Tasks will be assigned by a supervisor or Project Manager and must be completed safely, effectively, and with consideration for environmental impact, following industry-recognised practices.
Responsibilities include:
- Fabricating, installing, and joining pipework using techniques such as soldering, press-fit, threading, and fusion welding.
- Installing bracket systems for distribution networks and assembling plant equipment including boilers, air source heat pumps, and storage vessels.
- Performing tasks related to the testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and decommissioning of cold water, hot water, heating, and chilled water systems.
- Demonstrating competence in health and safety, communication, quality control, and environmental standards.
Personal Qualities The ideal candidates will be enthusiastic, reliable, and capable of following instructions. Strong time management and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Entry Requirements While an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Heating and Ventilation (Commercial), Building Services Installation/Craftsperson, or Plumbing Systems is desirable, relevant experience in a similar role will also be considered. Candidates must have:
- A broad understanding of mechanical systems and their installation methods.
- Strong time management and attention to detail.
- The ability to work effectively within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT literacy.
- A full UK driving licence.
Experience in welding and holding a commercial Gas Safe registration would be advantageous.
Typical Working Week The standard contract is based on 37 hours per week:
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Includes a 30-minute lunch break (excluding travel time)
Occasional weekend work or overtime may be required. As projects are not limited to South Wales, candidates must be willing to travel and work away from home during the week. Accommodation will be provided when working away.
This role offers a salary of £37,000 - £41,000 + transport
