ESG and Risk Governance Partner Middlemore are currently leading a retained search for an ESG and Risk Governance Partner to join our well-known construction client in this unique opportunity.
The successful individual will be a Chartered Quality and/or Health and Safety professional to Head up a Governance QSHESG team.
You’ll need to be an experienced, credible leader to manage a team of professionals covering all aspects of Governance in the UK, Europe and KSA covering approximately 1300 staff. The team ensures the business has effective ISO and other certified systems, procedures, controls and audits covering Quality, Environmental, Carbon footprint, Risk and Legal matters and Corporate Responsibility management as well as Corporate Health and Safety. Meets regulatory standards and reports to the Board of Directors on Risk, Governance, Modern Slavery, Bribery and Corruption, Data Protection, Security and Information control.
Overview of Role:We are seeking a high calibre professional Partner to manage the Governance team to develop and continually improve ways of working, systems policies and procedures in line with the business strategy. To ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory legislation, investigating and reporting as required. Maintenance of existing certifications, identifying new legislation and standards applicable to our operations and identifying appropriate training. Managing the relationship with external bodies and key suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:- Understand the business strategy and professional services delivered to develop and continually improve business management systems in a changing digital workplace
- Maintain ISO standards certifications: 9001, 14001, 45001, 19650,
- Roll out same in KSA and European operations, subsidiaries and JV’s
- Work in accordance with and/or certify to ISO 23001, 26001, 27001 and any others as may be identified
- Manage the Governance budget ensuring value for money
- Chair compliance committee, sustainability operations committee, social committee and member of global ESG committee
- Respond to bids and support the team to produce winning answers to specific QSHE topics
- Identify relevant awards and manage submissions to promote the group in the areas of QSHE
- Manage the relationship with external bodies and suppliers
- Work collaboratively with all stakeholders reporting on Governance and areas for improvement by departments, services, and client projects
- Day to day line management of 3 associates and 1 senior team member
- Work closely with ESG manager to achieve ESG targets, including net zero for UK and Global regions.
- Work closely with the finance team, assessing/advising on supplier compliance ie., modern slavery, bribery and corruption etc.
- Work with the ESG, Legal and Risk Director to review and maintain business risk register and global risk returns
- Work with other key directors and functions to maintain clear governance and support informed decision making
- Manage company corporate governance, coordinate Directors report for annual report and accounts, reporting on SECR, business performance and Section 172 of the Companies Act
- Review appropriate polices at regular intervals, preparing new policies as applicable
- Prepare and report monthly on Governance KPIs across the business
- Liaise with People and L&D team, IT, Digital, regional operations, service boards and external stakeholders.
- Provide advice to operational teams with regards to ESG compliance
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement across all aspects of the business
- Liaise with technical and IT on client NDA, or highly confidential document management requirements and data protection policies
Person Specification:The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering high levels of customer service excellence with good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
Candidates with experience in a wide range of ISO standards, integrated management systems and auditing are encouraged to apply.
Essential/Highly Desirable- Previous experience in compliance role with ample experience in a senior management position
- Chartered CQI or IOSH
- Candidates ideally will have exposure/experience of ESG reporting and carbon footprint calculations
- Track record in management systems improvement and project and change management
- Experience in measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of initiatives including establishment of KPIs and ROI measures
- Strong business acumen, skills and maturity and the ability to work effectively with others even under demanding deadline situations
