Job Description

We currently have an excellent opportunity to join Thames Water as a Senior Control Engineer to work in our Systems Catchment and Operation team in London.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Control Engineer
As a Senior Control Engineer, you will be required to assist the strategic control manager and production teams largely on weekly, monthly and annual supply/demand planning along with the development and maintenance of control strategies to ensure the optimal operation of the London supply system.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Working closely with water production and network to ensure overall optimum system performance, as well as working across asset management and capital delivery to ensure new assets meet optimum performance requirements.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining and facilitating the outage plan, ensuring that large assets can be removed from service for maintenance and statutory inspection with no impact to water quality or water supply to customers.
  • As part of the role, you will be required to assist the London strategic control manager to maintain weekly and annual production plans to ensure optimal system operation carry out supply/demand mass balance studies to determine system resilience and provide technical support and/or risk assess permits to work on the supply system.
Base Location: Hampton - TW12 2ES but can be flexible across London which can be discussed with the successful candidate.
Working hours: 36
Necessary requirements for the role: Due to the nature of the role you will require a valid UK driving license and you will be required to be on standby as part of an out-of-hours roster.

What you should bring to the role
  • We are ideally looking for someone with relevant industry experience or a degree in a relevant field. You will need to be a strong communicator with an innovative approach to communicate with a range of stakeholders.
  • Water operations experience would be beneficial, and health and safety competency is essential.
  • You will need to be able to deliver against operational targets and have knowledge of strategic supply operation. You will also need the ability to analyse key performance data from SCADA and PI systems.
  • Can apply knowledge of water supply operation and communication skills, working with water production and network staff to ensure overall optimum system performance.
  • For this role, you will be required to be on standby as part of an out-of-hours roster
