Job Description

We are seeking a Lead Process Data Analyst to join a high-profile team at an exciting time of change within the company.

This role is based in the Business Improvement Team which is responsible for delivering improvements and driving efficiencies for Waste Treatment Operations. 
Thames Water’s Waste Treatment business generates large amounts of data daily.

Your role will combine process knowledge and data handling and analytics to generate critical insights, informing decisions impacting our site performance.

This role will support colleagues and sites based across the entire Thames Water estate, and as such office location is negotiable. You can be based at any of the following locations - Beckton (STW) - IG11 0AD, Crawley (STW), Crossness (STW) - SE2 9AQ, Mogden (STW) - TW7 7LW, Oxford STW - OX4 4YU, Reading (STW) - RG2 0RP, Rye Meads (STW)

We are offering a salary up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience

36 hours per week Monday – Friday. Permanent. Full Time

What you will be doing as a Lead Process data Analyst?

Your day-to-day input will directly contribute to the Waste Operations Business Unit’s strategic priority of a “Smart and Efficient Operation”, specifically reducing energy usage and improving operational efficiency, including maximising renewable electricity generation and heat recovery, minimising chemical usage, and reducing the cost of sludge and cake transportation.

The data analysis and tools you develop and maintain will enable the optimisation of each step in the wastewater treatment process, including primary treatment, activated sludge treatment, anaerobic sludge digestion, biogas production and sludge dewatering.
  • Collaboration with operational teams and other stakeholders across the company, sharing performance and risk insights to aid the consistent and efficient delivery of process performance commitments.
  • Operation, maintenance and deployment of operational performance reports, to deliver accurate and trusted reports and insights, with appropriate commentary.
  • Ownership of regulatory reports.
  • Effective collaborative use of data insight and operational knowledge to create interventions for operational delivery teams that focus on enhancing asset operation and/or risk.
  • Maintain existing data management processes, monitoring key data quality metrics and proactively consulting with company-wide functional experts and data engineers to resolve any process failures or data quality issues.
  • You will need good data aptitude and analysis capability, including statistical modelling, data mining, innovative analytical tools, and advanced data visualisation techniques to identify trends and provide insight on process performance.
  • Identify and propose new developments to improve processes and models.
  • Your work will directly enable process improvements, and drive efficiency, reducing the cost of treatment.
  • You will work with a team of process engineers and technical experts developing data tools and providing improved data handing, analysis, and reporting.
  • You will collaborate with other key data teams to ensure we are developing efficient tools and reporting.
  • Your waste treatment process awareness will be critical to putting data into context.
  • You will be responsible for providing technical leadership in data analysis, and visualisation to support the Business Improvement team, with additional opportunities to support frontline operations.
What should you bring to the role?
  • You will have a proven record with data handing, analysis and reporting and some experience of the wastewater and sludge industry.
  • You will need to possess strong analytical skills.
  • Working across the business it is essential that you are confident in communicating professionally both verbally and in writing; have strong influencing skills and be able to build positive relationships quickly.
  • Strong analytical background, including Excel, VBA, MS Access, SQL, Power BI. (Python or R not required but seen as a bonus).
  • Several years of relevant business or technical experience.
  • Experience providing detailed management reports.
  • Attention to detail, plus the ability to understand the wider context of analytical tasks.
  • Good communication skills and self-driven approach to work.
  • Excellent IT skills – relevant industry specific tools and systems as well as MS Office.
