Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA), technician, to join our Mogden Catchment Pumping Team.

As a Successful candidate, your role will be to manage and maintain the pumping stations within the Mogden Catchment area, maintaining control instrumentation (i.e. ultrasonic level controller, flowmeters etc), telemetry systems, and telemetry outstations (RTUs).  You will also be responsible for carrying out Planned Maintenance (PPM) and Mandatory works (Mandats) along with reacting to defective equipment.

You will be working alongside a range of operational teams such as mechanical and electrical technicians, but you will be required to work alone. Along with being on an on-call roster to cover reactive works out of hours.

What you’ll be doing as the ICA Technician
  • Carrying out planned maintenance (PPM) which includes some mandatory tickets and some reactive maintenance on defective equipment.
  • Installing, modifying, and commissioning new plant equipment to relevant standards, and diagnosing and repairing faults on systems and plants. Proactively identifying and reporting follow-up work or areas for enhancement and delivering cost-effective improvements to assets and systems.
  • Investigation into plant failures and the implementation of subsequent repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • You will be responsible for providing specialist technical advice where appropriate with up-to-date technical knowledge.

What we are looking for
  • Be qualified in level 3 NVQ or City and Guilds in the relevant area as the minimum.
  • Ideally, you will be qualified for the HNC level.
  • Preferable for you to have an 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and communication network systems, instrumentation including flow, level, pressure, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs and HMIs (Rockwell Allen Bradley) is sufficient, though advanced knowledge is advantageous.
  • Experience with variable speed drives (VSDs) and other starting methods for motors/pumps
  • Ability to troubleshoot communication issues and modems is required.
  • Experience working in ‘Ex areas’ and installations.
  • Be physically capable of carrying out the role, and the ability to work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • Take Ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to understand the problem fully, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact with the team.
  • Proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively.
