Job Description

Head Chef
Position: Head Chef
Location: Plymouth, PL4
Hours: Part-Time (30 hours per week) Majority of hours will be between 9am - 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Occasional evening hours for special events.
Pay: £16 per hour

The Box Kitchen and Bar is a vibrant venue in Plymouth, providing exceptional culinary experiences from Tuesday to Sunday, primarily between 9am and 4pm. The Box also hosts venue hires for larger events, which typically occur in the evenings.

Key Responsibilities -
Food Production & Presentation:
Prepare, monitor, and present high-quality dishes for our café and event catering services.
Ensure every dish meets our high standards of quality and taste.

Innovation & Collaboration:
Keep up with industry trends and collaborate with the Sous Chef and Commis Chef to create exciting new recipes.
Continuously review and update the menu to keep offerings fresh and appealing.

Inventory & Stock Management:
Oversee inventory of stock and ensure it is completed accurately.
Order food and kitchen supplies efficiently to maintain stock levels without excess.

Health & Safety Compliance:
Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety standards within the kitchen.
Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment to FSBB standards.

Budget Management:
Follow the budget set by the General Manager, ensuring that the menu is costed correctly.
Minimise waste and manage resources effectively to stay within budget constraints.
Staff Training & Development:
Train and develop kitchen staff as instructed by the General Manager.
Foster a positive and productive work environment, encouraging staff growth and development.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of different varieties of foods and ingredients.
Ability to maintain an extremely sanitary environment while working.
Demonstrated knowledge of culinary techniques and practices.
Understanding of menu and recipe development techniques.
Strong leadership abilities.
Understanding of health and sanitation laws.
Excellent knife-handling skills.
Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
Previous kitchen management experience.
Experience in a similar role.
3-5 years' experience in high-volume kitchens.

Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Head Chef or similar role in a busy kitchen environment.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and mentor staff.
Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
Knowledge of best practices for training kitchen staff and implementing kitchen policies.
Familiarity with menu costing and budget management.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Exceptional creativity and a passion for creating new dishes.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
