Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity at Thames Water to become a class one LGV driver for articulate vehicles working from Basingstoke Sewer Treatment Works.
The start date for this role is 13th January 2025. Please note if you already have a class one license you are not eligible for this apprenticeship programme.

What you will be doing as an LGV Class One Apprentice

This is a great opportunity to learn the essential skills that are already in high demand across the industry and will set you on the path to your future career.

Typical duties may include:
  • Shadowing drivers to learn routes and the sites we attend.
  • Driving with the intersite teams to move sludge from one sewage treatment works to another.
  • Driving with the cake teams to deliver to farmers so that the cake can be spread around the fields.
  • Driving with the combi teams to clear out wet wells to make sure they don’t get blocked.
  • Vehicle movements and collections ranging from welfare units, Tankers, Hiabs, cars and 4x4s.
  • Helped with general vehicle maintenance to make sure Thames fleet of vehicles stayed clean, charged fuelled up and ready to assist at any moment.

About the Apprenticeship programme
  • A fully embedded induction programme delivered by the employer and Seetec Outsource Training and Skills.
  • On-the-job training delivered by the employer.
  • Allocation of an apprenticeship delivery coach who will carry out: Regular training to give you the knowledge skills and behaviours to progress and develop. 
  • Access to online learning and an e-portfolio where you will be able to gather evidence to demonstrate your performance ensuring your apprenticeship – this evidence can be used towards your end point assessment.
  • Apprenticeship Course Duration is 12- months plus end point assessment. (3-6 months)

Start date: 13th January 2025.

Base Location: Basingstoke Sewer Treatment Works RG24 8LL.

Working hours: 38 hours per week. (Start time 09:00 am when onsite. Hours will vary when attending training or college).

Programme Length: 12 Months + End point assessment (3-6 months).

Training provider details: Seetec Outsource Training and Skills.

Qualification you will obtain: Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) and (C+E ) license.

Other immediate demands: You must hold a valid UK driving license and be at least 18 years of age to complete the apprenticeship programme.

  • Have a real drive and motivation to manage your learning and working life.
  • Communicate effectively and be able to challenge when a problem arises.
  • Be a champion for Health & Safety within the workplace for both you and your colleagues, helping us maintain our great reputation.
  • Be ready to apply everything you learn in your day-to-day role and any projects outside of this.
  • Have great teamwork skills but also be able to work independently, putting customers at the heart of everything you do.
  • Due to the nature of this role you must hold a valid UK driving license and be 18 years of age to complete the apprenticeship programme.
