Job Description

As the Senior Business Manager, you’ll work across Asset, Operations & Capital Delivery (AO &CD), supporting the Chief Operating Officer and their Leadership team. You’ll also work closely with colleagues in other departments to maximise collaboration and jointly deliver our Turnaround Plan.

You will have an opportunity to see first-hand how our experienced senior leaders work to make our business a success, the challenges they face and how they balance priorities. You will be able to learn from our Executives about all aspects of our business as well as develop the skills required in a role at this level.

In this role, you’ll have an opportunity to gain real experience in how a senior lead team works and provide insight into key discussions and decision-making regarding the business, whilst taking ownership of a range of exciting projects. This position offers you a rare opportunity to gain a broad view of how we manage a successful, high-performing department and increase your understanding and network across Thames Water.

Please note this is a 12-month fixed-term contract.

What you’ll be doing as a Business Manager
  • Work closely with the AO&CD Leadership Team to seek out, enable and align collaborative opportunities within the team and across the business with other departments.
  • Take ownership of a range of high-profile activities for the AO&CD Lead team.
  • Work on a wide range of activities, ranging from business performance reporting and putting in place the subsequent support to implement change, to longer-term strategic projects shaping the future of the business over the next 5 to 25 years.
  • Maintain an up-to-date view of strategic priorities and critical deliverables including governance for the AO&CD Leadership Team and relevant Board or Executive committees.
  • Reporting is key, collating data and providing insight for the Board and the Executive Team as well as proactively maintaining a document library to ensure that we have up-to-date and engaging content.
  • Producing professional and engaging presentations/materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Facilitating the running of the team; formulating effective agendas, managing priorities and making sure the next steps are clear and actions are completed.

What you should bring to the role
  • Provide support in delivering long-term, multifaceted activities.
  • Have the ability to build strong, working relationships, utilising your excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analyse technical information and data, and present the findings to the Board, Executive Team and Stakeholders.
  • Evaluate problems and identify solutions.
  • Take ownership of your workload and prioritise tasks.
  • Possess excellent written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate drive and tenacity and take a proactive approach to delivering change.
  • Deliver exceptional results through an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team.
  • Have demonstrable experience using Microsoft packages.
  • You will need to be discrete and maintain confidentiality as required, both during the role and after.

This is a demanding role that will require flexibility, and travel to our Thames Water sites.
