Job Description

As the Process Safety Manager, you will establish the strategic direction for process safety management at Thames Water. You will lead the development and assurance of a comprehensive Process Safety Management System. As an expert in your field, you will collaborate closely with colleagues throughout the organisation to ensure that recognised standards and statutory requirements effectively manage process safety and risk control standards.

The base location is Clearwater Court and there is a requirement to attend the offer with business needs, but the role will be significantly remote working.

What you’ll be doing as a Process Safety Manager
  • You will lead the development and implementation of the process safety management strategy, confirming the accountability and responsibility of appropriate stakeholders for overall successful delivery.
  • Develop, document, maintain and communicate a process safety management system (process safety leadership, risk identification and assessment, risk management, reviews and improvements) to control the risk of significant process hazards at Thames Water.
  • Document company standards for hazard studies and risk assessment to identify significant hazards and develop controls to eliminate the risks.
  • Develop and maintain standards for safety in design, including safety and environmentally critical tasks (including process design, hazardous areas, relief systems, safety instrumented systems, human factors, change management, etc.)
  • Develop, document, maintain, and communicate a process safety audit framework for the end-to-end asset lifecycle to assure compliance with the process safety management system, including regulatory standards.
  • Assign accountability and responsibility. Collate, review, report and (as required) escalate assurance findings.
  • Provide guidance and support to the business regarding process safety.
  • Set the standards for investigating any process safety incidents.
  • As appropriate, lead and provide technical expertise for process safety investigations. Define and categorise the business safety incidents and their potential impact.
  • Develop, document and communicate minimum requirements for competency in process safety for holders of responsibility within the process safety management system.

36 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

Must be a driver and have access to a car; this role does come with a car allowance.

What you should bring to the role
  • Chartered Chemical Engineer with Process Safety experience or Master in Process Safety.
  • Membership of the relevant professional organisation.
  • Solid background in Process Safety Management.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing process safety management policy, standards and procedures.
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive salary up to £90,500 per annum.
  • This role will come with a car allowance of £5,800.
  • 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
  • Annual Bonus.
  • Private Medical Health Care.
  • Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of your and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
