Mechanical Technician

We are currently recruiting Mechanical Technician to Join our team within our home counties pumping Wastewater Division to be based at our Maple Lodge STW.

As one the successful candidate, you will be working in a multi-discipline teams and will be responsible for carrying out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdown.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician

• Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
• You will be expected to provide technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required.
• Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
• Completing statutory checks as required.
• Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.

Base Location: Maple Lodge - Rickmansworth - WD3 9SQ
Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30am – 3:36pm plus standby and overtime opportunities increasing earnings by potential £8-£10k per annum upon completion of essential company training
All PPE, tools, van and fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role

• NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical engineering qualification
• A valid driving license is essential.
• Physically fit as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
• Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
• Ideally be a time served apprentice with considerable experience of electrical systems ideally working in a “true multi-skilled” capacity.
• Participation in a 24/7 out of hours’ standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment for which you will receive additional payment.

• Be a self-motivated individual who can immerse themselves into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined have the desire to learn from those around you and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times but very rewarding too.
• Take Ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact with the team.
• Teamwork – We are one team, and our end goals are the same.
• Proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively.
• Must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures.
• Knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards.

• Competitive base salary up to £36,840 per annum depending on skills and experience.
• Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase this earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
