Job Description

As a Customer Sampling Technician, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring the high-quality drinking water Thames Water provides is up to standard. You'll be visiting customers in their homes, treatment works, and reservoirs to collect water samples for testing, helping us maintain the best water quality possible.

This is a key role where you’ll be a real ambassador for Thames Water, interacting directly with our customers and playing an essential part in their everyday lives. Every year, we carry out over 500,000 water quality tests to ensure your drinking water is safe, clean, and of the highest standard.

What you’ll be doing as a Customer Sampling Technician
  • Participating in an out-of-hours rota, including working weekends (every 5th weekend).
  • Travelling extensively to visit customers and sites across a wide geographical area, working alongside a dedicated team.
  • Collecting and testing water samples, ensuring all sampling records and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Investigating supply issues and customer concerns when necessary.

Base Location: Marlow.

Working hours: 7:30 to 3.35 pm, unless working standby.

What you should bring to the role
  • Experience in driving and customer service, as you’ll be ‘cold calling’ on residential and commercial properties and spending time driving between locations.
  • Confidence in approaching homes and businesses, building rapport with our customers.
  • A solid understanding of planning efficient journeys and being a competent driver.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • A willingness to learn about the water industry and the processes involved.
  • Basic computer literacy is important.
  • A clean manual driving license is essential.
