Job Description

We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join Thames Water permanently.

An exciting opportunity within Shared Maintenance (Wastewater Operations) to support the delivery of DMC programmes, such as Sewer Rehabilitation, Interceptor Removals and Low Complexity, and Excavation Repair Works (exceeding  15 million CAPEX p/yr).

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to work closely with the Engineering Project Manager on these programmes, supporting and owning the management and delivery of these interventions. 
The individual will work within Engineering Solutions, however, be required to engage with wider operational teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure delivery to time, cost and quality. Previous experience in either an engineering or operational-based role is critical, with the individual being passionate about driving change and introducing innovation opportunities. 

This role will report to the Network Engineering Solutions Lead.
  • Monday – Friday 36 hours per week.
  • Hybrid - Clearwater Court - RG1 8DB.

What you will be doing as an Assistant Project Manager
  • Supporting the delivery of Civil Engineering based intervention programmes to reduce blockages, pollution, and flooding issues across the network.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Project Manager to undertake day-to-day management duties of delivery, quality assurance, budget control, stakeholder engagement and contractor management.
  • Establish and continuously promote proactive Health, Safety & Environment culture.
  • Assisting in achieving all regulatory, statutory, and internal outputs, deadlines, and targets.
  • Actively protecting, managing, and enhancing Thames Water’s reputation to external customers and stakeholders.
  • Development of project briefs, including supplementary information for the subsequent early contractor involvement phase of the project.
  • Managing the relationship with both internal and external stakeholders, inclusive of contracting entities.
  • Assisting in managing and assuring the performance of contractors to deliver project outcomes on time, cost, and quality.
  • Assisting in the management of risk issues and change, in a fully transparent manner through effective reporting and escalation.
  • Drafting, vetting and approving pre-construction information, project plans, construction phase H&S plans (CPP) and commissioning plans.
  • Overseeing the commissioning and handover of the project to the operational client.

What should you bring to the role?
  • Experience in supporting the delivery, design and management of projects/programmes.
  • Experience within the water industry and regulatory requirements would be beneficial.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues concerning construction works including CDM.
  • Awareness of commercial delivery requirements.
  • Experience in procurement and tendering of projects/programmes + cost management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel. (Microsoft Project desirable)
  • Desirable to hold some form of engineering or project management-based qualification.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have your transport.
