Job Description

Start date: 1st September 2025.

Base Location: Hybrid - Clearwater Court - RG1 8DB, Hampton Coal Wharf - TW12 2ES, Maple Lodge - Rickmansworth - WD3 9SQ.

Working hours: 36 hours Monday- Friday.

Programme Length: 48 Months.

Training provider details: University of Cumbria for 1 day a week to gain the theoretical background to your degree, this is delivered virtually with the occasional face-to-face delivery in Lancaster, Cumbria. We will support your attendance by paying for your accommodation and travel expenses per our travel guidelines and business expense policy.

Qualification you will obtain: APM PMQ / BSc Hons Project Management/ Project Manager Apprenticeship Standard.

Entry Requirements: A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above in Maths and English and 3 A Levels or equivalent Level 3 BTEC (equivalent 96 UCAS points).
Don’tworry if you dont have your grades yet, if you are due to sit your exams thisyear,we still want to hear ifyour predicted grades meet our requirements.

Other immediate demands: A full UK driving licence. (If using your vehicle, you will require business use on your insurance policy at your own cost)

Application Process:

Step one: Click apply and you will be asked to complete a short online application where we ask for basic information about yourself, you will then need to upload your current qualifications/ predicted grades and finally let us know why you want to apply for this apprenticeship. (we do not ask for CVs at this stage).

Step two: You will be sent a short online assessment please make sure you are in a quiet environment and have given yourself enough time to complete it.

Step three: You will be sent a link to book a telephone screening call with a member of our Resourcing Team this is an opportunity for us to get to know you better and ask you some questions.

Step 4: If you are successful in our screening process you will be invited to an in-person assessment centre which will include a group exercise and a competency-based interview.

Assessment Centre Dates– Assessments will be held in April and if successful you will be invited for a morning or afternoon session.

What you’ll be doing as a Project Manager Apprentice- Level 6
  • You’ll be working with experienced Project Managers to develop your understanding and application of the Thames Water five-stage process for planning and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • You’ll maintain and monitor progress and performance and lead analysis to identify and proactively address issues and opportunities to do even better.
  • You’ll develop a good understanding of the Health and Safety, OFWAT, Drinking Water Inspectorate and Environment Agency requirements.
  • You’ll develop your communication and engagement skills as you build meaningful relationships with stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered to time, cost and quality standards.
  • Your degree program will help you learn transferable skills, including Budgeting and cost management, Conflict management, Communication, Earned value management, Leadership, and Negotiation.

About the Apprenticeship programme
  • As part of your apprenticeship programme, you’ll study the relevant project management degree through the University of Cumbria for 1 day a week to gain the theoretical background to your degree, this is delivered virtually with the occasional face-to-face delivery in Lancaster. We will support your attendance by paying for your accommodation and travel expenses in line with our travel guidelines and business expense policy.
  • You will also achieve an Association of Project Management (APM) Qualification. It’s a chance to work towards a degree while gaining practical experience in a project management environment, earning while you learn.

  • Be ready to apply everything you learn in your day-to-day role and any projects outside of this.
