Job Description

Senior Quantity Surveyor – Major Projects | Thames Water

Are you ready to take your career to the next level? Join Thames Water as a Senior Quantity Surveyor and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of water and wastewater infrastructure.

As part of our Major Projects Delivery Office, you’ll work on high-profile, multi-million-pound projects that drive innovation and sustainability. From pre- to post-contract stages, you’ll be instrumental in delivering new builds and significant developments across our water and wastewater networks.

This role is a key contributor to Thames Water’s Capital Delivery Programme and Turnaround Plan, ensuring efficient project execution and cost management.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Quantity Surveyor
  • Assist in producing and delivering estimates and costs for all production and network capital solutions. Ensure the timely delivery of estimates/target costs that meet the relevant brief and are within budget.
  • Monitor project performance and ensure robust forecasting. All financial systems are updated to time, cost, and quality, appropriate KPIs and targets are in place, non-performance is identified, and corrective actions are implemented. Benchmarking is also in place.
  • Assist in the financial accountability for circa £30m per annum of a delivery programme, negotiating with suppliers as appropriate—demonstrable programme delivery in terms of time, cost, and quality.
  • Delivery of regulatory output; improvement of capital efficiency (Key Performance Indicators); and delivery of projects within the business plan.
  • Responsible for internal and external stakeholder engagement relating directly to project delivery. Appropriate processes are in place and monitored, non-performance is identified, and corrective actions are implemented, embedding relationships with Asset Management and Operations.
This role will be based on a hybrid basis at Clearwater Court; you must be on-site 3-4 days a week as the business requires.

Thirty-six hours a week, Monday to Friday.

It would be ideal for the successful candidate to hold a driver's licence and have access to transportation.

What you should bring to the role
  • Being educated at a degree level and chartered (or working towards) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent is required for this role.
  • Knowledge of Civil Engineering projects in a pre and post contract environment
  • Hold your ground and offer reasoned advice in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of commercial and contractual contracts with an in-depth understanding of construction contracts, e.g. NEC.
  • Understand the costs and risks associated with the delivery of projects.
What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive salary from £52,000 to £70,000 per annum depending on skills and experience of successful candidate
  • Annual Leave -26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
  • Annual Bonus
  • Private Medical Health Care4
  • Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of you and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
