Rate: Between £300-£400 per day (Umbrella)

Job Description: We are currently recruiting for a skilled
Tribunal and Mediation Officer to support a Local Authority SEND team in managing and responding to appeals and mediation cases linked to EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans). This is a key role in ensuring statutory compliance and supporting the LA in achieving timely, high-quality outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage all aspects of SENDIST (Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal) cases, including preparing evidence and attending hearings.
- Represent the Local Authority in mediation and dispute resolution meetings.
- Coordinate responses to parental appeals and liaise with legal teams and educational settings.
- Ensure accurate and timely case recording and documentation.
- Provide specialist advice to colleagues on the appeals process, mediation legislation, and relevant SEND Code of Practice guidance.
- Monitor and report on case progress and outcomes, identifying areas for service improvement.
Requirements:- Previous experience in a similar role within SEND services.
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and tribunal/mediation processes.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage a high caseload under pressure.
- Confident working with legal documentation and preparing case bundles.
Desirable:- Legal or paralegal experience in education or SEND law.
- Experience using EHCP case management systems.
