Pay rate to £42.45 per hour

We are recruiting for an experienced Environmental Enforcement Manager in South London    
 
Main Purpose of the job: 
 
To provide leadership, direction, and delivery of an effective, efficient, and responsive Environmental Enforcement Team throughout the Borough, to the highest standards, at all times. 
To drive high performance when managing and resolving environmental nuisance/crime cases, ensuring that services meet the needs of residents and businesses within Lewisham. 
To embed a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and personal responsibility amongst front line enforcement supervisors and officers. 
Take responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day operational management, direction, and control of both directly employed staff, agency workers and other service providers in the delivery of environmental enforcement services 
Support the Service Group Manager in maintaining a corporate responsibility for strategic and service issues affecting the environmental enforcement service, providing strategic advice in respect of the service to Senior Officers as necessary 
To be responsible to the Commercial Services Manager for the full professional service of the enforcement of environmental crime, abandoned vehicles, forecourt licensing legislation and other provisions for the Council as directed. 
Lead on strategic planning and development for the Environmental Crime Team. 
  
Summary of Responsibilities and Personal Duties: 
MANAGEMENT ROLES & EXPECTATIONS 
As a Lewisham Service Manager, you will: 
1. Manage a team of officers as the Council's front-line response to environmental crime & nuisance ensuring that all powers contained within the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and any other relevant legislation, together with advice and support are used to reduce environmental crime/nuisance. 
2. Regularly review and deploy resources including vehicles and equipment accordingly to ensure that incidents of environmental crime and nuisance are effectively managed and that a variety of tools are utilised by your staff to achieve compliance with the law. Including, enforcement powers, persuasion & negotiation and sign posting victims and providing advice and support for low level cases. 
3. Take overall responsibility for the planning and management of the service ensuring community and customer needs are met, and that the service meets its responsibility by providing a range of responses to environmental crime/nuisance in line with the timeframe and targets detailed in the service's enforcement protocol and that an intelligence led approach allows the correct balance in combating serious and low-level incidents of environmental crime/nuisance. 
4. Work with other enforcement managers and coordinate a joined-up enforcement approach across services and partners including ASB & noise enforcement, community safety, private sector licensing and licensing and actively promote and lead partnership working and joined up service delivery, by developing and maintaining key relationships with people inside and outside the council. 
5. Continually review & develop enforcement approaches that utilise the use of FPN's as an alternative to prosecution when dealing with environmental crime & nuisance offences. 
6. Ensure the delivery of identified service objectives and continuous improvement of service targets including the effective deployment and management of financial resources and compliance with statutory professional and organisational frameworks. 
7. Manage relations with staff to ensure service objectives are met and participate in negotiations with staff representatives on issues affecting the service. 
8. Be responsible for service compliance with Health and Safety legislation and requirements, risk assessment, safe systems of work and reporting. 


 
This is a contract role, and you will need to have experience in a similar role.
