Lead Resource Teacher of the Deaf – Mainstream Primary School – Islington – February Start

Join a thriving mainstream primary school in Islington as the Lead Resource Teacher of the Deaf within its dedicated deaf provision. About the Role:

  • Location: Islington
  • Start Date: February 
  • Role: Lead Resource Teacher of the Deaf (Mainstream Primary with Deaf Provision)
  • Salary: £200.00 - £280.00 per day plus SEN Allowance (dependent on experience)
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and mandatory qualifications as a Teacher of the Deaf (ToD).
  • Proven experience in teaching deaf students in a mainstream or specialist setting, with leadership or coordination experience (desirable).
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) or experience working with signing systems (desirable).
  • A strong understanding of the needs of deaf learners, including the use of assistive technologies such as hearing aids and radio aids.
  • Excellent leadership and organisational skills to oversee the school’s deaf provision and guide staff.
  • The ability to support students’ academic, language, and social development while fostering inclusion within the mainstream curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Take the lead in managing the school’s deaf provision, ensuring outstanding support for students with hearing impairments.
  • Teach and provide specialised support to deaf students, enabling them to access the mainstream curriculum.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), working closely with the SENCO, parents/carers, and external professionals.
  • Provide training and guidance to mainstream staff to ensure effective communication strategies and inclusive practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of deaf students, maintaining high expectations for achievement and well-being.
  • Lead on the use of assistive technologies and ensure their effective implementation.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to drive the continuous improvement of the school’s deaf provision.
