Play WorkerWest LondonRate: up to £21.04 per hour We are recruiting for motivated workers to join our busy team. This role is with one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving as one of the best places to live and work in.
Within Kensington and Chelsea, some residents need extra support to handle the challenges that life has presented them with, such as families of children with complex Special Educational Needs (SEN) and disabilities.
As such, a high quality playscheme has been devised that operates 7-days a week, providing these parents and carers with some much-needed respite, while the children have a great time and learn valuable life skills. It is against this backdrop that you could join a team who work as a collaborative unit to deliver the best possible experience for everyone who makes use of this incredible service.
The Role:A friendly and charismatic team support children with various disabilities from 5 through to the age of 18. We share a commitment to ensuring that they’re having fun, while always promoting their independence and ensuring they are thriving in a genuinely happy environment. This makes for a spectacularly fantastic workplace, so we are confident that you will excel here!
Every day will present you with new challenges, but across the board you can expect to help children develop their social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional skills through play. This will involve planning and delivering a wide array of activities including, sports, arts and crafts, and games. Whether working onsite at the play centre or in the community, you will engage closely with the children, handling their personal care needs as required. Staff will be working with the children to achieve their smart outcomes according to their individual profiles.
About You:With plenty of patience and empathy, you’ll have the capacity to work with the children if they’re displaying challenging behaviour. While you don’t specifically need to have previous experience in a role like this, it would be undeniably advantageous if you have previously worked with children with SEN or disabilities, or if you have an NVQ in healthcare – or you will be willing to work towards achieving this. As you will be working closely with parents and carers, you will have great communication and listening skills, and you will have good verbal and written English skills.
Crucially, you will be able to work a minimum of two days in the February, May and October half terms, two days in the Easter and Christmas holidays, and at least three weeks over the summer holidays.
