Job Description

Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

Looking to build real SEN experience while getting paid?

Use your steady, empathetic approach to help pupils with Autism, EBD and ADHD learn well every day.

*** Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Support with Autism, EBD and ADHD

Role snapshot:
Work 1:1 and in small groups to remove barriers to learning. Break tasks into clear steps, use visual timetables/now–next boards, and scaffold transitions so lessons feel predictable. Run short, evidence-informed sessions that build communication, self-regulation and core literacy/numeracy. Log quick wins and agree next actions with the class teacher and SENCO.

About you:
Calm, reliable and clear in your communication. You keep boundaries consistent, notice triggers early, and adapt without fuss. You’re organised, reflective, and turn feedback into next-lesson tweaks.

Requirements
• Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
• Communication – Strong written and verbal skills.
• Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
• Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in SEN, behaviour and pupil wellbeing.
• Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ two-form entry primary serves a diverse Wolverhampton community and keeps classrooms calm through simple, consistent routines from arrival to home time. Inclusion is woven into daily practice: the SEN team runs termly plan–do–review cycles, keeps visual supports and sensory tools ready to use, and offers access to regulation spaces when pupils need a reset. Reading is a visible priority (systematic phonics in early years; daily guided reading and vocabulary work in KS2), while maths follows a small-steps sequence with frequent retrieval and shared methods across year groups. You’ll receive a structured induction, labelled intervention resources, weekly bite-size CPD, and coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next moves—ideal conditions to make impact quickly and build a strong portfolio for educational psychology or initial teacher training.

How to Apply
Send your CV and include your availability and DBS status (add two referees if you can). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
