Harrow Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced
Principal Private Sector Housing Officer to join our Enforcement team on an agency basis. This is a key role in supporting the Council to meet its statutory obligations for environmental protection and public safety.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct enforcement functions to help the Council fulfil its statutory duties regarding environmental protection.
- Perform inspections, enforcement actions, provide education, and offer advice to private sector housing providers and tenants.
- Represent Harrow Council in challenging, customer-facing situations and carry out duties in line with Council expectations and statutory requirements.
- Split your time between office-based work (25%-40%) and site-based visits (60%-75%) across Harrow, using appropriate equipment for inspections.
- Work collaboratively within an Enforcement team, ensuring compliance with Council policies and procedures.
- Act as a duly authorised officer of the Council, educating and partnering with relevant internal and external organisations to promote public safety and wellbeing.
Working Model:- Hybrid – a mix of home and office/onsite client premises.
Driving Requirements:- Yes, the worker will be required to drive their own vehicle for Council-related business.
- A valid Driving Licence, DVLA check, and proof of business insurance must be provided by the supplier for the worker offered the role.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:- Significant experience in private sector housing enforcement and/or related fields.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with the public, stakeholders, and partners.
- Ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism and sensitivity.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and Council policies related to housing enforcement.
