Interim Head of Health & Safety – Assets Directorate

We are seeking an exceptional leader and Health and Safety practitioner to act as our interim strategic lead for the corporate Health and Safety service at Wiltshire Council, and progress key projects. Based in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, the role is offered as a hybrid working arrangement, with a 50% office working requirement.

Working as One Council, you will maintain the corporate health and safety governance structure, manage key risks and systems, lead a small advisory team and develop the health and safety service to ensure the safety of our staff and customers. You will fulfil the role of Competent Person on behalf of the Council and be the lead advisor to the organisation and the Chief Executive as statutory duty holder. You will be a specialist in health and safety law and practice, hold Chartered Membership of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and have up to date knowledge relating to health and safety interventions.

The Council is underway with an improvement plan including the imminent launch of a new software platform, maturing our governance and assurance as part of a comprehensive review of the service.

We are seeking an excellent communicator, with the ability to provide clear advice and guidance, deliver training and influence the whole organisation by building and maintaining positive and productive working relationships with a wide range of internal stakeholders.
