Job Description:
The ALN Learning Support Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting students with Additional Learning Needs to access the curriculum, participate in activities, and develop essential skills. Working under the guidance of the ALNCo (Additional Learning Needs Coordinator) and classroom teachers, the successful candidate will provide one-to-one and small group support to students with diverse learning needs.
Requirements:
- Candidates would have their own transport and would be willing to pick up ASAP requests early in the morning to fill short notice absences with local schools. These opportunities will often turn into ongoing placements. SET Education has an excellent track record of assisting its workers into full time permanent positions after a period of supply, if that is their objective.
- We will work around your availability and your own travel limits, but if you are looking to secure something long term, the willingness to work full time is a significant advantage.
- Being able to work the full school day of 8.30-15.30 is essential.
- Experience working or volunteering with children in the UK, ideally within an education setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of all students.
- Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to respond positively to the changing needs of students and the school community.
- Although not essential, we are always looking for Welsh speaking staff in particular and can often offer enhanced rates for placements at Welsh Medium Schools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualised support to students with ALN, both inside and outside the classroom, to help them achieve their learning goals.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and strategies outlined in students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Support students in developing social skills, communication skills, and independence, as appropriate to their needs.
- Adapt learning materials and resources to suit the individual needs and learning styles of students with ALN.
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting students with ALN.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and ALNCO as necessary.
- Assist with the organization and supervision of activities, ensuring the inclusion of students with ALN.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers, providing updates on student progress and discussing strategies for support at home.
- Always maintain confidentiality and professionalism, respecting the privacy of students and their families.
